GOD I STRUGGLED WAY TOO MUCH ON THE BACKGROUND!
Anyway..This scene is canon and will happen in the comic (in fact I've planned to do a whole chapter based on what happened exactly to Owl and Silvermist and why it happened..it'll be a kind of huge flashback)
So time to reveal some things (minor spoilers I guess):
This scene takes place just before the attack. In fact it's the beginning of the offensive. I won't explain everything because it would ruin everything (obviously) but here, we have Oakmoon and cats from the Exploration Team. YEP! Oakmoon is part of this team...and yep, the killers are part of the clan 
When Oakmoon realizes that his life is in danger and that something terrible is going to happen, he runs as fast as he can toward the rest of the clan.
